t.f. pillow girl version

Today I'm running late for work! ahhhh! But that didn't stop me from trying to get the girl version of the tooth fairy pillow completed! Its not quite there (still have to stuff) and I"m hoping to add a really cute bow and maybe a little hair to this girl. But alas that will have to wait till later this evening! Hope you all have a great day!

rag rug turned pet bed

I'm definitely not done yet, but I wanted to post a picture of what I'm currently working on. It's supposed to be a rag rug but I want to curl up the edges and make it into a pet bed with a cushion insert (not made yet)

Shag rug 2.0

http://www.etsy.com/shop/meggiebabe

This is my second attempt at making the shag tshirt rug. Second, and much much better attempt! This time around when I was cutting the holes in the base of the rug I measured them out, instead of making holes where I thought it looked right. This gave the rug a more uniform look and decreased my over all time making the rug, even though it added a little more time to the start up portion!

Also to make the shag part a little more secure I made my cut out holes a scant 1/4 inch. It definitely made a huge difference. I hope the person who bought this from my etsy store enjoys it as much as I enjoyed making it! Tutorial below!

Business Cards

Here is what I'm thinking I want my business cards to look like. I sent the picture off to my sister first thing this morning, and she suggested I change "productions" to something else because productions is associated mainly with movies or assembly line comings and goings.

While I had thought of that myself, I couldn't figure out how to change the name within the etsy community, and I wanted everything to match up on the website and business cards. After the phone call, I got down to the nitty gritty with etsy and found out how to change the name.  My store is now called Hill Top Creations -crafting made fun.  (I feel as though it should have always been this name!) Out with the old, in with the new!

I did try to use fabric on my business cards, but I liked it better with just my handwriting, and drawing of the hill top house. Making them by hand will be nice since it's more personal and, I can make them as I need them. A few here, a few there. What do you guys think? Should I have any more information on the card? Design it differently? Thank you once again for the imput!

work in progress

So even though my blog is a craft a day for a year, i didn't complete my project today. I got up early (5:30am) to start early, before work but I did not get it done. I think this project I will save to do when I have spare time (lunch breaks, bus rides, etc) So I can always be productive and fill my time.

I'm posting pictures of the process because a friend asked if I could show her how to make a Celtic looking pillow.

Oh, and while I was speaking with my Mother last night, she suggested that I make some business cards. Probably so that she could hand them out to people back in my home town. So I'm really excited to make that my project tomorrow. Business cards made with fun scrap fabric notions! (it kind of reminds me of making ATC's. :)

I believe in the tooth fairy!

 http://www.etsy.com/listing/91411884/tooth-fairy-pillow-money-slot

My friend Jean sent me this link to see if I would be interested in making the tooth fairy pillow. It just so happened that I was definitely interested! However I didn't make this one by myself, I'm cat sitting for my best friend. Her apartment is showing today and this little guy is a wee bit ornery, so he's hanging out here helping me do what I do!

While he was weaving through my feet and stepping on my sewing pedal, I was making the tooth fairy pillow! I would ask him if he thought this color was good. He was most agreeable!

This is the first project I did where I had to rely on just the written instructions to make something. I wasn't sure I was going to succeed, but I did. So here are Benson Boo (the cat) and myself writing the blog and marveling over our tooth fairy pillow! I will post the link below that I used for the pattern.

Head bands

A while ago I picked up a really cool silver tshirt dress from the thrift store, for a couple bucks. I was really pumped to have found such a cool buy, till I got home and saw that there were two little holes in the fabric. So the dress has been hanging in my closet, and every morning I look at it and sigh. Oh what could have been. ;)

This morning I decided to put the dress to good use. I made a pretty sweet head band that I had found a tutorial for on pinterest. It took very little time, which is good cause work will be calling my name soon. I've decided to show off my newly made headband at work today, to see what the ladies think. I'll post the link on how to make the headband below!

don't mind the bad hair! ;)

Owl ornament

Sunday fun-day project was a success! I spent the afternoon with my sister and our respective men so I needed a quick project, and this one didn't take long at all. I used the pattern below in the drawing from the diydish.com Where they have a wonderful tutorial. I posted the tutorial earlier to my blog so I didn't loose the link! I will for sure be making more of these little guys. I think this would make a cute banner or even mobile for above a crib or something. Definitely something to play around with here.

Grey

I made this pillow late on Friday evening into early Saturday morning, for my Saturday craft. Steven (the boyfriend) called me at noon on Friday and said we were entertaining a few friends over dinner. So house cleaning and cooking went in to overhaul ;) Dinner passed, the wine was brought out and it was an all around jovial time! A little warm off  the wine I decided after they left that it would be a perfect opportunity to craft (Saturday I had work and after there was girls night on the town)
So here I am Sunday evening posting for Saturday! This pillow was really basic to make. Grey fabric with charcoal polkadot ruffles. I'm really enjoying working with all the shades of grey recently. My favorite color combo is a dark royal purple and grey. 'Till next craft..

This looks like it would be great fun to make into a pillow! I think I'm going to have to try it today for my Sunday Fun-day Craft!

It was a Monster Mash!

www.etsy.com/listing/91019285/monster-gift-card-holder

I made this monster gift/money holder today. But the idea for the project originated just right before Christmas. I wanted to make my little sister a Monster banner spelling her name out. I thought it would be cute hanging above her studio area. However I began the project a little too close to the time I had to deliver it, and didn't end up with enough time. And thus a gift card holder was born. You'll see in the picture below (this is not the first one i have made, but it's the first one that was successful!) How exciting to finally have figured out how to make it all look good! Ps..I even got to include a few ruffles in this project as well! <3 Day six complete!

Bee Mine

http://www.etsy.com/listing/90888530/bee-mine-pillow?ref=v1_other_2
A few years ago I started calling a friend of mine B, and for some reason that extended out into bumble b (probably because he was being grouchy!) As the years passed some how people were under the impression that I fancied bee's, and I started to accumulate gifts that people gave me, involving bees of all shapes and sizes. So this is one of those gifts (from my boyfriend) that I never used. A bee mine t-shirt. It does make for a super cute pillow though!
I just cut out two of the same size rectangles-front and back-at the same time. Then I flipped them the wrong way out to sew them together.  And here's where my HUGE problem began! I wanted to add ruffles to the outside edge, but did not think ahead to how i was going to put them on if the two pieces were already attached! So I just attached the ruffle through the 3" opening i left at the bottom to stuff the pillow! It worked with a  lot of stop and go sewing and quite a bit of pulling as well! ;)
This was also the first time I have ever made a ruffle! How fun was it! :) I feel like I might apply ruffles to every thing in the near future, that's how much i liked it! Thanks for reading my DAY 5 project! :D

crinkle cat toy

Cat crinkle toy that was on Martha Stewart. Super cute for a cat to play with. I've been wanting to make things I could sell where 20% of the proceeds go to a program called "Hogs for Dogs" in my home town. They give money, food, toys, etc to the humane society and other animal sheltering programs in the area. So this is the first thing I have made that could go to that! Pretty exciting for me!

Scottish Terrier pillow

Scottish Terrier pillow I made with cotton fabric scraps. This is the second one I've made, the last one was a bit smaller. The angles are terribly hard for me to figure out, but I'm definitely getting there!  On a side note...

Western Flyin I will be

I woke up this morning (bright and early so i could get my craft on before I went off to do my normal daily duties) While drinking my glass of water i was looking at the post card I have hanging up in the kitchen of a red antique bike. The card reads.."choose the bike" -aka..don't drive when you can ride. I thought it would be immensely fun if I could do something crafty involving a bike today. And since I have an affinity for western flyers...this is what I made! I just used regular black polyester thread doubled up and backstiched my way around to make the bike! It was great fun, but more time consuming that I had guessed  (it always seems to happen that when I think something will be quick, it is exactly the opposite!) So here it is: day two complete! YES!

Yo-Yo Throw Pillow

For my first day of  my 365 days of crafting, I made a Yo-Yo throw pillow. I found a few yoyo's in my moms sewing room when I was young but I never tried it myself until now, and here are the results. I think it would be really cute with different shades of pink yo yo's with a white background. It would be very shabby chic cute I think! (they are super easy to make!)

The beginning

I have been crafting most of my life. One of my favorite stories from childhood  involved crafting. When I was 3 years of age, we went to story time at the local library where there was reading, and treats, but most importantly there was crafting. The librarian told Mom that she had never seen a kid so serious about coloring, cutting, and pasting. It didn’t stop there for me, I went on to try jewelry making, scrapbooking, and finally sewing. Which is where I found my niche.
While making some gifts for Christmas instead of buying them, my sister suggested that I try selling my wares online. This was not the first time she had suggested trying to sell my stuff. I was always so worried that nobody would like what I made(darn that self confidence). But when the new year rolled around I thought -why not?? I’ll give it a go for a year…which brings me here! Make 365 days worth of crafts and see where I can go from there. One year, three hundred sixty five days of crafting. Is it possible? Only time will tell… This should prove to be a fun year!
